Adobe The origin of the adobe block can be traced to the ancient Egyptian societies, and has been popularized in many regions of the world including several states in the southwestern United States . Adobe, meaning "mud-brick", are exactly that: A brick formed of soil, clay and sun-dried to produce a 10" x 14" with varying thicknesses. The advantages of adobe are it's ability to maintain a cool temperature due to the thermal mass of the brick. The down side of adobe is it's low compressive strength.
